A number of flint artefacts are recorded as having been found on the lands of East Morriston farm. These are held in Wilton Lodge Museum, Hawick.
No details of these artefacts are given, but it is understood that some are microliths, miniature blades usually fashioned from flint. It is thought that these would have formed part of a larger, composite object. For instance, a row of small flint blades could have been set into an antler or bone handle and used as a knife blade.
Microliths are characteristic of the Mesolithic period, which followed the last Ice Age and lasted for four thousand years or more.
