This pair of estate cottages, situated to the east of Marchmont House, was built around 1900.

Built of harled rubble masonry with red sandstone dressings, the cottages contain a number of original features, including lying-pane glazing and twin fanlights above the doors.

Lying-pane glazing was especially fashionable during the mid-nineteenth century. The rectangular panes of glass were set horizontally, rather than vertically, as is more common.
