NJ 21528 62826 A watching brief was carried out in May 2007 during the installation of a UV treatment tank next to the fountain on Elgin Plainstones. The trench was dug without archaeological supervision, due to a misunderstanding between the building contractors and the client, and in the process human remains were greatly disturbed and partially removed. A smallscale rescue excavation was undertaken, and a human skull and other bone fragments removed. In addition, a small sherd of glazed pottery was recovered from the same context. Subsequent analysis of remains showed that they belonged to two individuals, an elderly male and a young female, while the pottery sherd was dated to the 12th–14th century AD, providing a terminus post quem for the burials.
