Nothing is now visible of what was probably a burnt mound, which stood about 180m SE of the broch at Thrumster Little (ND34NW 2), immediately E of the A99(T) public road. The mound was recorded on a pen-and-wash illustrated by RI Shearer about 1871 (DC 44301), with the mound described as comprising 'burnt stones and black soil'. At that time, the mound measured at least 15m in diameter by 1.5m in height, but Shearer considered that the NW part of the mound had been destroyed when the adjacent road was constructed, suggesting that originally it may have extended a further 10m in that direction.
