HY 5290 3375 Samples were collected from a series of burnt mounds on Eday in July 2000 as part of a broader investigation of luminescence dating of burnt mounds being conducted at the Scottish Universities Research and Reactor Centre, East Kilbride.

Stone samples were collected for luminescence dating from this badly damaged and eroding mound, now surviving as two separate mounds at the point of Fersness, 150m SW of the farm. A 30cm2 area of the smaller southern mound was deturfed and excavated to a depth of 30cm for sampling. Samples were also collected from a small section of visible stones on the easternmost side of the northern section of the mound.
