Trial Excavation
During an archaeological evaluation of a proposed pipeline route in January 1993 a trial trench was dug at the foot of the raised beach, a site chosen because of its proximity to the cropmark site NM22SE 28. Filed with large water-worn boulders, the trench bottomed out at 60cm on to a coarse orange gravel. There was evidence of a turf divot appearing as a negative feature in the gravel; however, no finds were recovered from this trench.
