Mumrills is the largest Roman fort on the Antonine Wall, the 2nd century AD Roman frontier earthwork which was constructed across the Forth-Clyde isthmus. Inscribed stones found in the vicinity suggest that the fort was occupied on different occasions by both cavalry and infantry regiments, and further finds hint at a possibly earlier (1st century AD) Roman occupation of the site.
