HY 29553 07530 Five trenches were excavated around the Hall of Clestrain. The trenches were hand excavated. Targeted trenches revealed the foundations and former floor surface of the now ruinous East Pavilion, including internal structural features such as drains and possible partitions; the original flagstone floor of the West Pavilion; an earlier stair and threshold in the north elevation of the Hall; and a system of large ‘moat’-like drains on the periphery of the Hall. The East Pavilion appeared to have been used as housing for livestock, while the West Pavilion appeared to have been used as storage for farming equipment.
