RCAHMS undertook measured survey at Gylen Castle in 1971. The original pencil drawings were redrawn with pen and ink and published at a reduced scale (RCAHMS 1975, figs. 191-203). The final published drawings included a general plan, floor plans and NE elevation of the tower house, and detail drawings showing profile mouldings and details, gun-loops and the oriel-window.
