Brabstermire is an archaeologically significant site probably of late-medieval foundation. Gilbert Mowat 1st of Brabstermire obtained a charter from Keith of Inverugie in 1517. The known archaeology comprises St. Trustan’s pre-reformation chapel and burial ground; the vestigial remains of a 17th century tower house and abutting kiln tower, still extant, and the footings of three outbuildings. An 18th century laird’s house, now ruinous, is incorporated into the modern farm buildings. The modern road lies very close to the edge of the chapel site
