NT 27104 76822 A Historic Building Survey was carried out on the Victoria Swing Bridge, Leith. The Victoria Swing Bridge was construction between 1871 and 1874. It was designed by Alexander Rendel, with alterations by Peter Whyte in 1896, and includes a pump house to the north. It originally carried a double rail track along its central deck whilst also providing vehicular access across its timber deck and pedestrian walkways to each side. The rail track was removed after the bridge had been closed to vehicular traffic in the mid-1990s, most likely when the timber decking was replaced in 2000, at which point the bridge was reopened to the public but not to vehicular traffic. The survey recorded the current condition of the bridge.
