The contents and building at 23 Reform Street are substantially intact and represent a rare example of a purpose-built printworks in Scotland.

There is a centrally placed main entrance from Reform Street into the ground floor office area. There is a side passageway with a ramp on the east side of the building which opens into the main workshop.

To the rear of the printworks (south end) is the original staircase upto the mezzanine level paper store. On the ground floor below this mezzanine is the old toilet and the hot lead boiler and foundry room.

The main structure is of brick, mainly one brick in thickness (4 1/2 in.) with brick piers (9ins. by 9ins.)supporting roof timber trusses, slate roof and long rooflights over the main area. Only the gable onto Reform Street is 9in. (double brick) in thickness. There is a front area containing offices on two levels. There is a rainwater gutter recessed on the wall to the side accessway.

Information from John Manning (Chartered Architect), 17 April 2024.
