Cameron Nursery School was recorded by the Threatened Buildings Survey. The survey was prompted by concerns raised about the future of the 22 stained glass windows by William Wilson.
The nursery closed in 2019 due to the Covid pandemic. It did not re-open but was officially closed on 9th May 2024 having lain empty since 2019. The modest single storey building is northwest of Cameron House and is only accessible on foot. The south elevation is completely glazed opening onto the playground. The modest building of c.1930 may have been designed by Ebenezer MacRae, the city architect, who was responsible for the surrounding housing scheme. The stained glass frieze along the south window represents a Day in the Life of a Nursery School Child by William Wilson, 1937. It was commissioned the City of Edinburgh Council as part of a scheme to bring the arts into community life.
Cameron Nursery School appears to have been influenced by the nursery at Moray House planned by Anne Mackenzie following Montessori principles see Canmore site 194486 and Listed Building LB29729.
