Two small rectangular buildings within a rectangular enclosed yard area are depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1st Edition map (1864-65) and
annotated as ‘boat building yard’. They lie immediately to the west of ‘Rutherglen Quay’. By the time of the Ordnance Survey 2nd Edition map
(1897-98), these buildings have been demolished. The yard itself has expanded to the north-east, along the river, annotated ‘shipbuilding yard’; a group of three larger buildings, two of which are L-shaped, have been erected and a small U-shaped building lies to the north-east of the group.
The 1914 Ordnance Survey map shows that the group of three buildings has been demolished, and a single rectangular building constructed
immediately to the north of their former location. The U-shaped building to further the north-west has been retained. The ship yard is annotated
‘Broomloan Shipyard’.
The U-shaped building is still depicted on the 1935 Ordnance Survey map, but the area is longer shown as a ship yard. By the 1956-58 Ordnance Survey map the U-shaped building has been demolished.
