Situated in an arable field about 260m NNW of Gateside steading (NY19SW 89) and a short distance to the E of the public road, there is a standing stone which measures 1.83m in height, and 1.1m in breadth by 1.05m in thickness at its base. The stone is an irregular glacial erratic which has a pointed top and is thickest around its midriff.

Paterson notes the discovery of a 'roughly hewn stone with markings on it' during investigations around the base of the standing stone; this second stone cannot now be identified.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 12 March 1991.
