Clackmannan Urban Survey
Analysis of the town of Clackmannan as part of the HES Urban Survey Programme.
For the purposes of the Programme's study of Clackmannan's character, an Overview giving a brief history of the town was prepared (available under Clackmannan, General NS99SW 17), and three Areas of Townscape Character were identified. Following fieldwork and desk-based research into the town, these Areas were defined mostly based on dating evidence of periods of expansion in the town. As a result, and due to the nature and location of expansion in Clackmannan, these Areas are split across the town, rather than in single blocks or zones. The three Areas of Townscape Character are:
-Clackmannan Historic Core Area of Townscape Character (NS99SW 164)
-Clackmannan C20 Industrial Expansion Area of Townscape Character (NS99SW 165)
-Clackmannan C20 and C21 Commuter Expansion Area of Townscape Character (NS99SW 166)
There is some overlap where Areas have been redeveloped with original settlements/uses being replaced or built over. A description of the character defining each Area has been prepared and is presented under the Area site along with sites for general streets and key buildings within the Area. Mapping has also been prepared in GIS to show the extent and coverage of the Areas, and PDF maps are available as collection items under the Area sites.
