HY 30311 05008 and HY 25704 02556 A walkover survey was conducted in advance of the replacement of the subsea cable between Hoy and Orkney Mainland. The area of investigation comprised two sites: Petertown on Orkney Mainland and Quoyness, Hoy. The survey identified six archaeological sites within the site boundary at the Petertown site and a further 23 at Quoyness. Those at Petertown comprised four post-medieval sites clustered along a burn, together with three sites on the foreshore, two potentially dating to the Second World War with a further site of indeterminate date. Of those at Quoyness, 19 were post-medieval, one Second World War, one prehistoric, one possibly prehistoric and one probably modern. The majority of identified sites were clustered along the shore or within (or associated with) the settlement at Quoyness. The work took place from 14 May–21 July 2020.
