The classification of this structure has been changed from 'Building' to 'Pillbox' because it formed part of an inner ring of six 'blockhouses' [pillboxes] that defended the Braefoot Point Battery in World War One. It is annotated 'Blockhouse No.4 (Inner Ring)' on a plan of the battery undertaken by the Ordnance Survey in 1918.
