Inverness Castle was recorded as part of the Threatened Building Survey on 9th March 2022. It was impossible for the building to be recorded whilst it was in operation as the Inverness Sheriff Court and due to delays caused by the Covid-Pandemic recording could only take place after the building had been vacated and partially stripped. William Burn designed the Court House 1833-6 (the south wing) and Thomas Brown II designed the Police Station and Prison 1846-8 (the north wing). The well of the original castle, restored in 1909, lies in the courtyard between the two buildings. Inverness Castle is being redeveloped as a ‘new world class visitor attraction.’ The regeneration of Inverness Castle is being designed by LDN Architects.
