What are probably the remains of a prehistoric promontory fort or settlement have been identified in gradiometer data captured within the field north-east of Kinneil House. A discontinuous band of raised magnetic responses orientated north-west to south-east and measuring 72m in length by 2-3m wide have been interpreted as a ditch. Running parallel to and 11m to the north-east is a positive linear tread, interpreted as the location of a bank. These are drawn across the neck of a promontory bounded by the steep sided Dean Glen on the east and steep sea cliffs on the north-west. Together these enclose an area of about 0.25ha.

Located within this enclosed area are the probable remains of two prehistoric round houses. These are both comprised of a discontinuous ring of discrete positive magnetic responses, the first measures 11m and the second 9m in diameter. These both can be interpreted as the postholes for the roof supports of a roundhouses. Further anomalies, interpreted as possible pits, are evident in the interior.
