One of a series of piers along Shore Road, presumably supporting steamer traffic, and facilitating the development of the area as a resort in the 19th century. Features on the 1st edition OS (1:2;500 series) map, possibly enlarged on the 2nd edition.

Rubble pier walls, then split stone construction, laid vertically, with replacement concrete deck and low wall to north. Pier head is laid in concrete (with drains) and supported on concrete piles. The supporting information to the adjacent listed building (Tyneshandon) notes the pier as constructed in 1847.
