Location Notes: Drumtroddan 2 is part of a group of cup-and-ring marked rocks (Drumtroddan 1 - 4) located within a fenced-off area in a field approximately 200m S of Drumtroddan Farm. Further rock art panels are located within a similarly fenced-off enclosure approximately 20m to the NW (Drumtroddan 8-13), and within a wooded area approximately 70m to the W (Drumtroddan 5-7). Drumtroddan 1 - 4 are part of the same Canmore ID (62794) and HER record (MDG2466) and, together with the panels in the other fenced-off enclosure and within the wooded area, are included within the same scheduled monument designation (SM90101), and are properties in care. Drumtroddan standing stones (Canmore ID: 62762) are approximately 400m to the S.

The two enclosures lie at the highest point of the field, and are part of a larger outcrop ridge. There are views in all directions, and particularly to the N, E and W, with the Galloway Hills visible in the distance to the NE. The enclosure within which Drumtroddan 2 is located contains four panels, Drumtroddan 1 - 4. This panel, Drumtroddan 2, lies in the E part of the enclosure approximately 3m to the S of the most northerly of the panels, Drumtroddan 1 (ScRAP ID: 1499; Canmore ID: 62794).

Panel Notes: Drumtroddan 2 is a NW-sloping, oval-shaped panel measuring 0.8 x 0.4m in size, and up to 0.2m in height. It is heavily decorated across the surface with motifs exending below the turf. There is a large central cup with seven rings, the inner four of which are complete, and the outer three are partial. To its S there is a second cup-and-ring mark extending beneath the turf, consisting of a cup-and-four rings, the outermost of which is incomplete. The the N end of the panel there is a further motif, consisting of three rings and no cup.

There are two natural cracks/fissures running across the panel. There is also a more recent additional sharp-edged groove (no peckmarks) over the outer W side of the largest motif. Clear pecking is visible in the outer, less weathered rings.

The motifs which were visible during the ScRAP 2019 visit were only a fraction of the motifs recorded by Van Hoek in Morris' Prehistoric Rock Art of Galloway (1995) (recorded as Drumtroddan 2B).
