NT 2787 7306 An excavation was carried out during August and September 2019 at Holyrood Park.

Six trenches were excavated in order to enhance understanding of the form, function and chronology of the fortifications, enclosures and agricultural remains and to examine the impact of visitor footfall on the monuments found within the park. The trenches were placed across features that are within areas of high visitor traffic. It was found that upstanding features are being severely damaged by visitor footfall, in some cases to the complete removal of the features. Some previously unknown ditch features associated with the upstanding remains were identified.
