The drought conditions of late June and July 2018 generated a bumper year for aerial reconnaissance, as the hot and dry weather produced extensive cropmarking in arable crops and differential parching of grass. These conditions revealed many hundreds of previously unknown monuments across much of the country from the far south-west to the north-east. Noteworthy new discoveries included a Roman Temporary Camp in the Scottish Borders, several pit-defined timber circles, a cursus monument on Bute, and unenclosed settlements in the Turriff area of Aberdeenshire.
