Aerial reconnaissance during 2014 saw a sustained focus on recording in support of World War 1 related projects, drawing on the results of comprehensive desk-based assessment to identify targets. The cropmark season proved disappointing despite a reasonably warm summer, probably because there was just enough rain throughout to offset crop stress. The ongoing maritime/marine survey along the west coast filled in gaps in Morvern, as part of a mixed economy of archaeological, architectural and landscape survey. A trip to Shetland provided an opportunity to explore gaps in existing coverage on Fetlar, parts of West Mainland and Yell.
