NS 87954 43782 A watching brief was carried out, 26 May

2017, during ground reduction and excavation relating to

the construction of two bed and breakfast units. The work

recorded a rich garden topsoil, which contained a number of

finds dating to the 19th century. It is considered that this area

was probably outside the earlier settlement and its appearance

is consistent with the backlands and formal gardens shown

on 19th-century maps.
