RCAHMS: The Archaeological Sites and Monuments of Cumbernauld and Kilsyth District and Strathkelvin District

Date 1977 - June 1978

Event ID 1085761

Category Project

Type Project

The records of archaeological sites included in the RCAHMS list for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, published in 1982, were revised in September 2022. This task included updates to their location, classification and period, the creation of digital site-area polygons and the arrangement of site descriptions under a project heading. Revision was undertaken by Darroch Bratt and George Geddes, HES. The text below is taken from the original report and outlines its scope and staffing.

'The items included in this list of sites and monuments range in period from prehistoric burial-cairns and forts to deserted farmsteads of comparatively recent date. The following categories have been omitted from the list: buildings eligible for listing...; buildings in towns; roads, railways and canals; most structures of 19th century and later date.

This list, which was the first issued in 1978, has been revised and expanded in order to bring it into line with the rest of the series. new sites have been included, making it necessary to renumber the series, and, where appropriate, the original numbers have been added in brackets.

This list has been prepared by Messrs P Corser, S P Halliday, G S Maxwell, R J C Mowat and J N G Ritchie, and edited by the Secretary [Mr J Dunbar], Mr A MacLaren and Mr J B Stevenson'.
