Located 80 metres north of Big Chesters fort, a series of cropmarks suggest a series of large 2-3 metre pits partly enclosing a large oval-shaped pit or hollow (measuring 22m NE-SW by 16m NW-SE). There are three clear pits to the west of the central setting arcing on an approximately NE-SW alighnment. There are two pits on the eastern side of the south-eastern side of the central setting apparently directly opposite those in the west. All are set within a rougly circular area of dryer ground (in the aerial) measuring 40m in diameter.

The pits possible represent a stone or timber circle respecting a central cairn. As an alternative, these could indicate a building of some kind with large post-settings.

There are hints, but nothing definite, of other structures within the cropmark enclosure surroundng Big Chesters fort, and these suggest a signficant palimpsest of features.
