AOC Archaeology Group was commissioned by Cala Homes Ltd to undertake an archaeological top-soil strip and excavation at the former Craigpark Quarry, Ratho, Edinburgh (NGR: NT 13101 70615).

The archaeological works sought to ascertain the extent, nature and identity of remains associated with the former Craigpark House and its associated farmsteading, dating to the 19th century. The initial top-soil strip cleared an area measuring approximately 100 m by 100 m along the south-eastern perimeter of the site. This was targeted on the basis of both cartographic evidence and previous archaeological field-work. The top-soil strip revealed that the majority of the 19th century structures had been completely removed below foundation level. However, a sand-stone culvert, brick setting and stairwell footings associated with the former house were recorded. Two estate boundary walls were also revealed.
