Type Archaeological Evaluation

This report presents the results of an archaeological evaluation on the site of a proposed development at Townhead Brae, Symington, South Ayrshire. An 8% evaluation was required of the available 69,000m2, equating to 2,760 linear metres of trenching. However, the presence of an attenuation pond and existing services reduced the total to 1,680 linear metres. A total of 37 trenches were excavated comprising 1,811 metres of linear machine trenching.

No significant archaeological remains were encounted. No further archaeological works are recommended. This will need verification by the West of Scotland Archaeology Service (WoSAS), who advice South Ayrshire Council on archaeological matters.
