The manse was vacated in 1858 and demolished (Brotchie 1905, 161–2; Young 1899, 97 n.1). The church itself was dismantled in 1884 and re-erected in Golspie Street as the Elder Park Parish Church, since demolished (McKinstry 1991, 105; Young 1899, 97). A fund was raised for a new building, and Sir William and Lady Pearce, Isabella Elder and the Misses Steven of Bellahouston were major benefactors (McKinstry 1991, 107).

The new church was completed in 1888 and expanded out through the north wall of the churchyard, its orientation constrained by existing burial lairs (fig 5.61; Davidson Kelly 1994a, 12); an intended spire was never added (fig 5.62). R Rowand Anderson’s design was heavily influenced by the incumbent Reverend John Macleod (see papers in Harvey (ed) 1988; McKinstry 1991, 105–7, 171; 1992; Thomson 1963; Williamson et al 1990, 586–7).
