Provan Gasholder No. 3 is a water-sealed, 4 lift spiral, 5,077,879 cubic feet capacity holder dating from 1969/70 (put to work 1970).

The holder and tank are by Newton Chambers Engineering. Used to store natural gas.

The diameter of the different lifts of the holder are as follows: 193' 3" (Top), 196' 6" (Second), and 199' 9" (Third) and 203' 0" (Fourth) all with a depth of 43' 0". The Top has 24 spiral rails; Second, 28; Third, 42; Fourth, 56. All rails weigh in at 55 lbs per yard.

The crown rise is 12' 0". It has 3 X 32" diameter bolted manholes. There are anti-vacuum devices (mechanical operation trip; holder low pressure switch).

Gas and air vents: 2 X 12" Audco valves at centre.

The sheeting thickness is as follows: Crown , Outer Row = 7/8"; at Top Row = 3/4" and at the bottom row = 7/16".

Cups and grips are 10" pressed plate cup.

No details on curb and crown framing.

Access the holders is lifts, spirl stircases (captive) passing platforms fitted. Access to Tank: 3 flight staircase.

The tank measures 205' 9" in diameter, with a depth of 44' 0" with the bottom curb at ground level.

The gasholder is of welded steel.

The tank is of welded steel.

The inlet and outlets are 36" in width. The connections : inlet on south and outlet to the east and separated. Anti-flood pipes fitted.
