NS 58818 66548 A section of the original canal wall of the Forth and Clyde Canal (SAM 6771) was uncovered during the upgrading of the public footpath on the W side of Speaker Martin’s Lock at Speirs Wharf.

An evaluation of the wall undertaken on 12 February 2014 found that 16.5m of the wall had survived, the N and SE ends truncated by work relating to the construction of a new lock during regeneration work associated with the Millennium Link Project. The front of the wall was made of dressed ashlar blocks. The top course of capping stones no longer survived. A test pit recorded the clay waterproof lining for the canal.
