Nothing is visible in what is now an industrial estate of a ‘Boat Building Yard’ which is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 25-inch map (Lanark 1864, Sheet X.3). At that time is comprised a rectangular area of ground on the south bank of the River Clyde which measured about 94m from NE to SW by 29m transversely, occupying an area of a little over 0.26ha. Two roofed buildings were situated in the SE and SW corners of the yard respectively. The second edition of the map (Lanarkshire 1895, Sheet 010.03) shows that by the 1890s the yard had been extended to the NE to produce a larger yard (for shipbuilding).
