A field trip to Eynhallow was undertaken by G Geddes (RCAHMS) and Mark Thacker (University of Edinburgh) in August 2015. The majority of time was spent in a re-analysis of the chapel and surrounding secular buildings, but in all 38 sites were visited and described.

They appear to have developed piecemeal, but are probably contemporary with the most recent elements of the field system extending to the W. Some are provided with low ‘creeps’ allowing the sheep to move from one to another. They are shown on the 1st edition of the OS 25 inch map (Orkney Sheet LXXXIX.7, 1882). [...] | 13 August 2015 |
| 1010357 | RECORDING | FIELD VISIT | This group of three drystone enclosures is situated in rough pasture immediately above the shoreline on the E coast of the island. Arranged from N to S, the most southerly measures internally about 23m from NNW to SSE by 7m transversely, the centre one measures about 17m from N to S by 6m transversely, while the most northerly measures about 25m from NNW to SSE by 21m transversely at its widest point. A section of walling at the NE corner of the central enclosure possibly incorporates an earlier two-room building which is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 25-inch map (Orkney Sheet LXXXIX.7, 1882); while the northern enclosure has clearly been robbed of stone for the construction of another building with wing-walls to immediately to its NE [at HY36519 29204]. | 1010358 | RECORDING | FIELD VISIT | What has been interpreted recently as a burnt mound (Moore and Thomas 2008, 9, fig. 3) is situated in rough pasture 100m SE of the cairn at Kyarl. The remains, which have been truncated by coastal erosion on the ENE, consist of a grass-grown, circular bank up to 3.5m thick and 0.8m high, enclosing an area measuring about 13.4m in diameter overall. Two edge-set stones mark the inner edge of the bank on the N, while an amorphous mound is situated at the centre of the ring. A second, smaller tump (also interpreted as a burnt mound by Moore and Thomas) is situated 8m SW. [...] | 13 August 2015 |
