This report is for an archaeological desktop and walkover survey conducted for SAC on behalf of Mr. J W French for an area of proposed forestry at New Keig, Strone Hill, Alford, Aberdeenshire. The walkover survey was conducted on the 15th September 2012.

Overall the area for proposed planting is on a north-facing slope of grass, with a western field of probable natural knolls, that has indications of being formerly an area of woodland, likewise field to Southeast (this is borne out in the map evidence showing woodland on the 1st and 2nd edition OS maps) with 20th century clearance material throughout the West field but no evdence to suggest any kind of earier field system or archaeological activity to either.

It is recommended that a minimum buffer of 5m be established round the features noted, and that no planting occur on any of the knolls.
