Archaeological monitoring works were carried out in respect of the renewal of drainage at Monument Cottage, Alloway, Ayr. The archaeological works were designed to mitigate the impact on the archaeological remains within their development area. The works failed to identify the presence of any significant archaeological features within the excavated drainage trench, with the presence of late 19th, and 20th century ceramics within the deposit underlying the current ground surface suggesting that the area has been subject to disturbance since the construction of the cottage in 1868-9.
