Scope and Content Crofting township of Reiff, Ross and Cromarty, Highland The crofting township of Reiff is situated at the north-west tip of the Coigach peninsula in Wester Ross, to the north of Loch Broom. The peninsula is largely comprised mountains and bog, with farming land and settlement confined to the coast. This aerial view shows Reiff (centre), Reiff Bay (bottom right) and the narrow inlet into the Loch of Reiff (bottom left). A series of crofts and associated fields can be seen running from the top of the picture to the sea. The ruins of sheep enclosures can also be seen (centre left). Reiff township dates from the early 19th century when, following reorganisation of the Cromarty Estate, a series of crofting townships and large tracts of open sheep grazing were created.
