Scope and Content Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project, contract no 9, Mullardoch Dam, south wing, general view of downstream face looking north from block no 7, 5 March 1951 Mullardoch Dam was built in 1952, and forms part of the Affric/Beauly Hydro-Electric Scheme built by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board to the north west of Inverness. It raised the level of lochs Mullardoch and Benevean (Beinn a'Mheadhoin). There are power stations at Mullardoch and Fasnakyle. Great care was taken in their design and construction to minimise the impact on the fine scenery in the area. The south wing of the Mullardoch Dam shown at a fairly advanced stage, with one block almost at its finished height. Wood and steel shuttering is in place on all the blocks for pouring concrete, and on the left a skip-full of concrete is about to be tipped into the lower part of block no 7. The Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project was the first part of the Affric/Beauly scheme to be built. The Affric/Beauly scheme is one of eight large schemes built by the Board from the 1940s to 1960s.
