Scope and Content Stable Block, Castle Fraser, Aberdeenshire, from east Built of blocks of local granite, the stable block is arranged around a quadrangular courtyard. The eastern side is two storeys in height, with circular turrets at the angled corners. The turrets, with conical roofs, are similar in appearance to the 17th-century ones on the nearby castle. The stable block has had an interesting range of uses. At the time of construction, it also contained a threshing mill with waterwheel, which was then used to power a sawmill during the 19th century. In 1948, the entire block was converted into a large house. The stable block built to serve Castle Fraser was constructed in 1795, when the estate was owned by Miss Elyza Fraser (1734-1814). It is situated about 30m west of the castle, which is now owned by The National Trust for Scotland. The stable block now contains offices and private accommodation.
