Scope and Content Engraved view of Pollok House, Pollok Park, Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow The engraving shows a horse and carriage approaching the house from the south. The bridge across the White Cart Water was built shortly after the house was completed. The house at this time appeared as a rather austere, box-like structure, with little external embellishment. Later members of the Maxwell family added to the house, with the most significant work being carried out by the 10th Baronet, Sir John Stirling Maxwell (1867-1956) at the beginning of the 20th century. Pollok House and the surrounding grounds are now open to the public. The house is in the care of The National Trust for Scotland. This view of Pollok House was engraved in 1798, less than 50 years after the house was built. The Maxwell family had held land at Pollok since the 13th century, and this house is thought to be the fourth family residence to be built on the estate. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
