Scope and Content Detail of swag decoration on garden front, Pollok House, Pollok Park, Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow The carving shows bunches of flowers and fruit, including pears and grapes. Each of the four festoons bears a different combination of flora; peaches, apples and possibly a pineapple. The identity of the original designer of Pollok House is a mystery. It is known that the 2nd Baronet, Sir John Maxwell (1686-1752), consulted with William Adam in 1737, but there is no evidence that Adam contributed to the final design. This carved swag is one of four which form some of the only decoration on the exterior of Pollok House. The house was built in the mid-18th century to an austere, neoclassical design. In the late 19th and early 20th century, Sir Robert Rowand Anderson (1834-1921) designed additions to the house, including two pavilions and service quarters. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
