Scope and Content Window on garden front, Pollok House, Pollok Park, Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow The exterior of the house is quite austere, with little embellishment. This photograph shows some of the only decoration on the south façade. There is carving around the central window on first-floor level and the edges of carved swags, of which there are four in total, can be seen. Beneath the window, the date 1752 can be seen, referring to the date that construction work finished. The architect of the house is unknown. It is known that Sir John Maxwell (1686-1752) consulted with William Adam in 1737, but there is no evidence that Adam contributed to the design. Pollok House was built in the mid-18th century for the Maxwell family. The house is built in neoclassical style which was fashionable at the time of construction. The house and grounds are now open to the public and are in the care of The National Trust for Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
