Scope and Content Aerial view of Scottish Parliament site, Holyrood, Edinburgh, from south-east At this stage, only one set of brewery buildings had been removed prior to commencement of work on the parliament site. The red brick building and surrounding structures at the right of the photograph are still to be demolished. All the other construction work that can be seen is unrelated to the parliament, and is part of the Holyrood North regeneration project which included a hotel and apartments. This part of Edinburgh was once largely industrial. The white tent of 'Our Dynamic Earth' is on the site of a brewery and former gas holder station, and there was once at least two other breweries in the land between Holyrood Road and the Royal Mile. Holyrood, at the end of the Royal Mile, was chosen as the site of the new Scottish Parliament building in 1998. This photograph, taken in January 1999, shows work getting under way on site, where brewery buildings once stood. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
