Scope and Content Buchanan Street Station, Glasgow, from north This shows the north-east end of the station from the north, on 2 July 1962, with the 5.30 pm Glasgow-Aberdeen train leaving. The locomotive is of an ex-London & North Eastern Railway design introduced in 1935 to work high-speed services on the East Coast Main Line. The type of locomotive seen was used on some of the trains from this station from about 1960 to 1966. Buchanan Street Station was closed in November 1966, and has been demolished. The train services using it were re-routed to Queen Street Station. This station was opened in 1849 by the Caledonian Railway, which had taken over the Glasgow, Garnkirk & Coatbridge Railway, which had initiated its construction. It was rebuilt in the 1930s by the London, Midland & Scottish Railway. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
