Scope and Content Buchanan Street Station, Glasgow, from south This shows the north-east end of the station from the south, in November 1962, with an Aberdeen-Glasgow train arriving. The locomotive is of an ex-London & North Eastern Railway design introduced in 1947, but was built by British Railways. Note the signal box behind the locomotive. The type of locomotive seen was used on some of the trains from this station from about 1960 to 1966. Buchanan Street Station was closed in November 1966, and has been demolished. The train services using it were re-routed to Queen Street Station. This station was opened in 1849 by the Caledonian Railway, which had taken over the Glasgow, Garnkirk & Coatbridge Railway, which had initiated its construction. It was rebuilt in the 1930s by the London, Midland & Scottish Railway. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
