Scope and Content Buchanan Street Station, Glasgow, from east-south-east This shows the north-east end of the station from the east-south-east, in November 1962, with a Glasgow-Aberdeen train ready to depart. The locomotive is an ex-London, Midland & Scottish Railway 5MT 4-6-0. The station's carriage sidings are to the rear. The type of locomotive seen here headed most of the trains from this station from the late 1930s to the early 1960s. Buchanan Street Station was closed in November 1966, and has been demolished. The train services using it were re-routed to Queen Street Station. This station was opened in 1849 by the Caledonian Railway, which had taken over the Glasgow, Garnkirk & Coatbridge Railway, which had initiated its construction. It was rebuilt in the 1930s by the London, Midland & Scottish Railway. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
