Scope and Content Aeroplane at Strathallan Aircraft Museum, Strathallan Airfield, Perth & Kinross This view from the south-west, taken on 15 August 1976, shows the terminal building behind the aircraft, with a hangar on the left. The aeroplane is a De Havilland 'Dragon Rapide', a type of aircraft much used in Scotland immediately after World War II, notably for air ambulance services. It unfortunately proved uneconomic to keep the museum operating, and it closed in 1981. The aircraft in it were sold, five of them, including this Dragon Rapide, being acquired by the Museum of Flight at East Fortune, East Lothian. This museum was set up in 1969 by Sir William Roberts, owner of the estate on which the museum was situated. He laid out a grass airstrip, and built terminal and museum buildings, and built up a fine collection of historic aircraft, some in flying condition. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
