Scope and Content Aeroplane at Inverness (Dalcross) Airport, Inverness, Highland This view shows the plane, at the terminal building on 26 April 1976. It is a Vickers Viscount, a medium-range turbo-prop airliner developed immediately after World War II, and an amazingly successful aircraft. This type of plane was used for many years on Scottish internal flights, but was nearing the end if its career in 1976. It has been replaced by more modern turbo-prop aircraft. This plane was on a Glasgow-Kirkwall service, calling at Inverness, operated by British Airways. Inverness Airport was developed after World War II on the site of a military aerodrome.
