Scope and Content Motor buses, Killermont Street, Glasgow This view from the north-west, taken in August 1964, shows four buses belonging to the nationalised Scottish Bus Group, waiting to operate services from Buchanan Street Bus Station, just across the road. The blue buses belong to Walter Alexander & Co, and the green ones to the Eastern Scottish Motor Traction Co. The two Eastern Scottish buses are Bristol 'Lodekkas', a double-decker type developed to pass through limited headroom bridges. The difference in height is obvious when compared to the Alexanders' double-decker in this view. The Scottish Bus Group was denationalised in the 1990s. Between the two World Wars there was a fashion for operating medium- and long-distance motor bus services from covered bus stations, analogous to railway stations, with platforms from which the buses could be boarded. Glasgow had two, one of which was in Buchanan Street. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
